This is me in my local woods where I love to walk and collect my thoughts. I’m smoking a makeshift morta pipe cobbled together from spare parts, with the idea of testing a new batch of morta blocks.

My name is Paul Lucas and I’m a self taught pipe maker from the south of England.

I started pipe making in March 2020 filling my locked down and furloughed days whittling briar in the back garden. Armed with only a few hand tools and a little knowledge from watching pipe related YouTube videos I was over the moon when I completed my first pipe. Filled with dreams of becoming an artisan pipe maker crafting magical objects I filled my time designing and carving pipes. It took me just over a year to feel confident enough to give up my day job and become a full-time pipe maker. To be honest I still can’t believe I’m doing this, it’s a bit like living in a dream. For once my obsessive nature has paid off !

My work is quite eclectic but I’m told I have a recognisable style that binds my pipes together, a kind of Paw Pipe DNA. Perhaps it’s the use of coloured bands, or something about the shaping but I like to think its that they have character, that they feel as though they have lived a life and could tell a good story or two.

Well I won’t waffle on now, if there’s anything you’d like to know feel free to message and ask away.

Cheers 🍻
